We hope to see you at the next edition of Mr. Nelson's Coffee Talk this Friday at Happy Hippie!
Garfield November Board Report
Besides reading intervention, Mrs. Galindo also teaches keyboarding and cursive writing for 4th and 5th grade. Today her 5th graders were choosing a motivational quote and writing a reflection paper while using cursive writing. Their goal is to get good enough at cursive to write thank you notes to everyone who helped support the P.E.P. scramble dinner.
Mrs. Craig isn't just teaching physical education standards with her students. She is also teaching them how to be good human beings! Each day she gives out "Whoa" awards to students who are leading by example in her class. This includes good character, sportsmanship, and teachability. She adds these names to a chart and then draws three names for prizes.
5th grade band is where it all starts! Mr. Eyermann was teaching students some basic note patterns this morning. There is a lot of repetition and learning going on each day!
Lots was going on in 5th grade art today! Mrs. McGuire was teaching them how to use different paint brushes depending on what they wanted to create. They then got to choose from different centers. Finally, Mrs. McGuire has each student complete a self assessment at the end of each project.
Pajama day and ice cream, what could be sweeter? Congratulations to this Pic with a Principal nominee. She went above and beyond today showing strong leadership and patience with her peers when they needed help! We are so proud of this Junior Bengal.
Ms. Tiffanny, Ms. Starr and Mrs. Steenbock served 131 students lunch today. All students were through the food line in under 37 minutes! We are so thankful for Ms. Tiffany and her leadership! What a spooktacular day!
Please see the picture below for changes on our Walk the Block event.
Mrs. Roberts' 5th graders have been working on presentations dealing with natural disasters. Students paired up and chose their disaster. Then they researched and prepared their presentation on Google Slides.
Today, Garfield students learned all about the voting process firsthand! They participated in a mock vote, including ID identification, voting stalls, and how you are supposed to act while in the process. Thanks to the GES teachers for organizing and to community members who volunteered to help with the process!
This leader was nominated for a Pic with the Principal because he saw a friend in need at recess. They were upset and this leader sat down with them and shared what he does when he is feeling upset to calm himself down. Then he walked them over to the game they wanted to play, and helped them navigate starting the next game. We are so proud of his kind heart!
This 5th grade leader was nominated by Mrs. Ferguson for his kind leadership. He noticed a classmate was new to Perler Beads and wasn't sure what to do. He helped patiently and kindly explain to her the expectations until she felt less nervous! Way to go!
Today's Mrs. Schurle's class found out you can learn even without power at the school! They have been learning about chemical changes in science. Today they mixed glue and Borox together to make slime.
If you need anything, until the power is back on or have after school messages, please email Mrs. Lane @ stefanielane@usd379.org. Thanks!
We would love to see you at the Walking Taco Scramble at the Methodist Church on November 13th! (Flyer made by a GES student)
This week is National School Bus Safety week across the nation. Here are some tips for a safe bus ride from our very own USD 379 students.

This fourth grade leader noticed a friend without an orange shirt for our Unity picture, and took off his orange jacket to share with his peer. Such a kind thing to look out for a friend! We are so proud of him!
Garfield staff and students were excited to celebrate Unity Day!
This afternoon's Career Exploration brought Jay Bohnenblust and his sheep, Amanda Jameson and her pigs from Roth Farms and Brittany Girton from the Public Library! Such a great day at GES!
