Wishing the Lady Bengals the best of luck today! The 7th graders will be competing in the District Gym, while the 8th graders will showcase their skills in the CCCMS Gym. Go team!

What's Happening

This week, we want to shine our Bengal Spotlight on our talented wrestling team! We are proud of our dedicated group of athletes who work hard both on and off the mat. Next Friday, they will compete in the NCKL tournament right here at home! Our team is guided by the expertise of coaches Craig Rickley, Alisha Brownell, Brandon Pigorsch, and James Gordon. Best of luck to our Bengals at the NCKL tournament!

Our "Like a Champion" call for today goes to Claire Tadtman! Claire discovered a fellow student's agenda and made sure to return it. She consistently treats all her peers with friendliness, not just her close friends. Your kindness truly stands out, Claire. Keep embodying the seven habits!

Today, our "Like a Champion" Call of the Day student is Brody Osborne! Brody showed great integrity by finding another student's cell phone outside and bringing it to the office. Thank you, Brody, for your honesty and for considering the needs of others!

Wishing all our Bengal athletes the best of luck today! The Lady Bengals will head to Marysville, located at 1011 Walnut St. The 8th grade teams will compete in the Activity Center, with the A Game starting at 4:30 PM, followed by the B team. Meanwhile, the 7th-grade teams will showcase their skills in the Junior High Gym, also beginning with the A Team at 4:30 PM, followed by the B team. Our Bengal wrestlers will face off against Abilene and Marysville at home in the CCCMS Gym. Come out and show your support for the Bengals!

Ever read "The Art of War"? These 6th graders in Mr. Taylor's World History class have! Maybe not the entire book, but they have researched the Tzu Dynasty and different passages from the book and are now analyzing them and relating them to today's world events.

Who remembers "y = mx + b"? Students in Mr. Sleichter's 8th grade math classes were working this week on graphing slope intercept equations.

Every couple of weeks, Mr. Kalivoda has a note-taking session. Today, they were discussing plant cell functions. The N.G.S.S. at the top of the board is the Next Generation Science Standards that he is covering during the lesson. Next up will be creating 3D cell projects.

Mr. Walsh's 6th grade science students were working hard last week! First, they created their own science review games using questions from their review materials and previous quizzes. This was connected to the art of engineering in science (criteria & constraints). They also tested soil for nitrates to see if it was good for crops.

Good Luck in Wamego Lady Bengals!

This week, we are pleased to recognize Michael Houchin as our "Like a Champion" Pillar of Leadership! Michael demonstrates a proactive approach to maintaining cleanliness in the classrooms. He prioritizes his tasks effectively, ensuring that all cleaning is completed while also taking the time to build relationships with his coworkers. He is always quick to empty trash cans when necessary and is willing to assist with repairs needed in the classrooms. Additionally, Michael embodies kindness and possesses an excellent work ethic! Thank you for all you do for the students, staff, and building Michael you are a great asset!

Reminder PEP meeting tonight in room 117

Today, our Bengal Spotlight is shining on our Special Education Teachers! We are truly fortunate to have such an outstanding SPED department. Here’s a glimpse of what makes these incredible educators so exceptional!
Dee Brown is in her third year at USD379. Her first year was at the high school. Before this, she was in Belleville for 8 years as a 6th-8th grade Special Education teacher. She started her teaching career in Concordia in 2007 at The Learning Center. She has 5 sons, four wonderful daughter-in-laws, and 6 grandchildren. She lives in Concordia with her two dogs and one cat.
Brandon Pigorsch started with USD 379 in 2009. He has been working in Special education since 2012. Spent 4 years in the Army on active duty before attending college on a wrestling scholarship. He has an amazing family (wife and 3 children) that he loves spending time with. He enjoys the outdoors-camping, golfing, disc golfing, and hiking. He loves attending concerts and sporting events. His favorite sport is wrestling and his favorite NFL team is the Las Vegas Raiders. He is a coach of Middle school football and wrestling and is also the head wrestling coach at CCCHS.
Alisha Brownell began working as a para at CCCHS in 2016. She began teaching at CCCMS in 2019. She was born and raised in Clay Center. She is married, has two middle school boys, three dogs, and a bearded dragon. She enjoys drinking coffee and reading books.
Mary Mellon has been teaching in the USD 379 district ever since she graduated from college. She started as a 6th-grade teacher at McKinley and transitioned to Special Education with a Masters in Gifted Education. She is a died-in-the-wool KU Jayhawk fan (Rock Chalk) and Chiefs (She lived through all the “Chefs” and “Chumps” years) Kingdom supporter. She has had the privilege of teaching or providing services in all the 379 and Twin Lakes Educational Cooperative (TLEC) schools. It is one of her most rewarding experiences when she has the opportunity to watch the students she serves grow and mature over multiple years. Some even from Kindergarten through High School.
Thank you Special Education staff you all are truly a blessing!

Happy Thanksgiving from USD 379!

Each quarter we create a video for staff, parents, and community members who have signed up to be a USD 379 Academic Ambassador. These videos highlight different academic curriculums used in the district and how they impact our kids. (go to usd379.org/academics to sign up)
We decided to share the latest video with the general public. It dives into the district’s 5-year plan to improve reading scores, which is taking place across all grade levels. We wanted to showcase the hard work and dedication ALL staff have put into making sure our students have the best ELA education in the state of Kansas!
