On Wednesday, August 7th, USD #379 will welcome its entire faculty and staff back to school at the USD #379 District Kick off. The keynote speaker for this gathering will be Kevin Polky from Rockford, Illinois.
Kevin Polky is an entrepreneur, executive coach, counselor, and a licensed clinical social worker. He is committed to helping individuals transform their personal and professional lives.
As a former competitive athlete and national champion bodybuilder, Kevin has built a foundation of goal setting, self-discipline, and perseverance. The topic for Mr. Polky’s presentation to the USD #379 team will be Managing Stress and Developing Resilience.
Following Mr. Polky’s presentation to district staff, he will be the featured speaker at a Clay Counts Courageous Conversations Night at the Rex Theatre at 7:00. Polky, will teach participants how to Shatter our Silence. The Clay Counts Coalition invites all members of our community to attend for free!
As a licensed clinical social worker, Shatter Our Silence was created in response to three of Mr. Polky’s son’s classmates dying as a result of suicide. In this program, Polky will raise awareness and educate our young adults, parents, and community on the factors that lead to young adult suicide.
“Suicide awareness is crucial because it is a serious public health issue that affects individuals, families, and communities worldwide. Suicide is preventable and early detection of signs or symptoms of suicidal behavior can save lives. By raising awareness about suicide, we can reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness and encourage individuals to seek help when they need it. With more awareness, resources, and support, we can save lives and help those struggling with suicidal thoughts or behaviors get the help they need,” stated Polky.
Lori Martin, Clay Counts Community Mobilizer invites everyone to join us for this important presentation as Clay Counts strives to honor the lives of those lost to suicide by increasing knowledge and efforts to address this epidemic. An ice cream social will follow Polky’s presentation.
